Ravi Shastri, who was succeeded as head coach by Dravid last year, was unhappy as the India great took a break from an important tour. Dinesh Karthik responded to the criticism with a unique suggestion.

Team India is currently playing a three-match T20I series in New Zealand. However, the team is missing key players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. India has also assigned former India cricketer VVS Laxman to coach the Hardik Pandya-led Indian squad since incumbent coach Rahul Dravid has opted out of the entire New Zealand tour.

Speaking to Cricbuzz in response to Shastri’s remark, Karthik provided a valid explanation for Dravid’s absence by stating that India will be visiting Bangladesh shortly for a Test series and that the match would conflict with the current New Zealand tour.

“As we speak, on the 30th, the team is going to Bangladesh and this New Zealand series isn’t going to get over on the 30th. I don’t think he can be in two places at one time. So it is very understandable,” he said.

“I don’t mind having a different Test and white-ball coach”: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik thinks it is time for India to follow England’s lead and create two separate setups with two separate coaches, one for red-ball cricket and the other for white-ball, given that tours and series are more likely to overlap in the future due to the volume of cricket being played.

“That is something that Team India should consider after the 2023 ODI World Cup when the contract is up for renewal; I believe split coaching has a very strong probability.” With the World Test Championship, Test cricket is taking on a new dynamic, with something to play for every two years” Dinesh Karthik said.

“As a result, Test cricket will feature a totally distinct collection of players. “In white-ball cricket, you will see players playing both formats, but you will not see a lot of Test players,” he stated.

“As a result, I don’t mind having a different Test and white-ball coach, as the English team has done.” And when there is so much cricket played, and different tours tend to overlap, coaches will choose which is of greater importance. The two Tests in Bangladesh and four against Australia are now crucial since they will provide India a chance to compete in the World Test Championship final, hence they have chosen to participate in those series” Dinesh Karthik Added.

“As a result, a full-fledged team will travel to Bangladesh and Australia for the Test series. T20 will take a back seat for the time being because there are two years to prepare for the next World Cup” Dinesh Karthik remarked.

Men in Blue traveled to New Zealand for the T20I series and then an ODI series after failing to win the T20 World Cup 2022 after being eliminated from the competition in the semi-finals.
