IND vs SA: 3 Players Who Can Replace Rohit Sharma As The ODI Captain. India’s newly appointed limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the upcoming South Africa Test series after pulling his hamstring. It has been reported by the BCCI that it might take him up to 3 weeks to recover from the injury. However, his participation in the ODI series too looks in massive doubt.

The South Africa ODI series was going to be Rohit Sharma’s first ODI assignment as the full-time ODI captain of the India National Cricket Team. His appointment has already been a part of a lot of controversies and now that he is out injured, it will be difficult for the BCCI to ascertain the temporary ODI captain for the South Africa tour as the new-vice captain hasn’t been appointed yet and BCCI can obviously not go back to Virat Kohli.

In such a scenario, let’s take a look at the 3 players who can possibly replace Rohit Sharma as the Indian ODI skipper for the South Africa tour which is all set to commence from December 26.

3. KL Rahul

After Rohit’s promotion as the new Indian limited-overs captain, KL Rahul was almost bound to be the new vice-captain of the Men in Blue. He has led the Punjab Kings franchise for 3 years in the Indian Premier League and he has been on a dream run with the bat in the last couple of years in the IPL and for the Men in Blue across formats.

In IPL 2020, KL Rahul was the Orange Cap holder as he scored the most runs and he was also the leading run-scorer for team India across all formats in international cricket in 2020. KL might be one of the strongest candidates to lead the Men in Blue in the ODIs vs South Africa if Rohit Sharma fails to make the cut.

2. Shreyas Iyer

The year 2021 hasn’t been good for Shreyas Iyer in international cricket due to injuries. First, he lost his position in the Indian limited-overs side due to injury and then lost his captaincy in Delhi Capitals due to his inability to participate in the first leg of IPL 2021 owing to injuries. However, over the last couple of years, Shreyas Iyer has time and again proved that he is ready to take on leadership responsibilities.

Numbers have backed him as well as he has gone on to lead Delhi Capitals in a phenomenal manner in the last 3 years in the Indian Premier League. One of the prime reasons behind Delhi turning one of the strongest title contenders in the IPL over the last 3 years has been Shreyas Iyer and he can certainly be one of the great choices to lead the Men in Blue against South Africa in the ODI series.

1. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has probably been one of India”s most underrated captaincy options in the international circuit. However, his smart game awareness and experience make him one of the favourites to take up the job in the absence of senior pros like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Bumrah has had an exceptional record in South Africa too and hence, he could be one of the great choices to lead team India in the upcoming tour.
