West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran admitted that despite playing more comfortably in the previous two forms, his team had failed to establish the proper rhythm for their 50-over match.

Pooran acknowledged on the eve of the ODI series against India that his team’s initial goal would be to bat for the 50 overs.

West Indies enters this series after losing to Bangladesh 3-0 at home on surfaces with strong turns that made life difficult for their batters. Despite winning the Test and T20I series, they fell short against Bangladesh in the ODIs. In all three games, they batted first and failed to score more than 200 runs even once. Additionally, they did not bat all of their allotted overs in a single match.

“Our objective is to balance ODI cricket between T20 cricket and Test cricket, not just from my end but also from a coaching side, Everyone can see that I believe we have not yet found the ideal template. The first item we want to check off our list is that we did not bat for 50 overs.” Pooran said.

They currently take on an India squad led by Shikhar Dhawan that will be missing a few key players, and Nicholas Pooran is hoping his team will benefit from the Bangladesh series and make some necessary corrections.

“I have faith in the boys, our collective potential, and the players’ openness to learning. Everybody wants to improve, and everybody has questions. I respect the individuals who have so far participated in the Bangladesh series since everyone is interested in learning how to get better.”
