Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody hailed Indian captain Rohit Sharma for having an honest chat with middle-order batsman Rinku Singh.
Rohit Sharma's chat with Rinku Singh was praised by Tom Moody among other experts because the KKR power hitter was left out of India's main squad for the ICC T20 WC 2024.
Rinku was initially touted to be a part of India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup but he was eventually put into the extras list alongside Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed.
Why was Rinku Singh left out by Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma?
Yesterday in Mumbai, Indian captain Rohit Sharma sat along with chief selector Ajit Agarkar for a press conference to address the media about the 15-man squad. Therein, Rohit and Agarkar were asked why was Rinku Singh left out of the main squad and what wrong has he done to be kept out.
Ajit Agarkar answered that putting Rinku Singh in the extras was the toughest thing to do for him and the Indian team management led by Rahul Dravid. Agarkar further explained that it was not Rinku's fault that he could not make it to the main squad. It was a move that was taken to give Rohit Sharma a few more options in terms of spin.
Concerning the playing XI combinations, Agarkar claimed that Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill could not break into the squad. Rohit Sharma also said that since the conditions in the USA are unknown, the team decided to go in with an extra spin bowling option.
"Probably the toughest thing we have had to do. He has done nothing wrong, nor has Shubman Gill. It's again the combinations. Like Rohit said, we are not sure about what conditions we will get. We have tried to have enough options. There are a couple of wrist spinners, Chahal and Kuldeep to give, Rohit more options." - Agarkar said during the press conference in Mumbai.

Before the press conference took place, Rohit Sharma was caught on camera having a thorough chat with Rinku Singh. Fans on social media are assuming that Rohit addressed Rinku as to why he did not cut. And according to Tom Moody, it was something that only a true leader does.
Tom Moody hailed Rohit Sharma for his upfront and honest conversation with Rinku Singh. Moody claimed that it's always easy for a captain to speak to a player who has been selected but it's always hard to explain to someone as to why they have been left out.
The former Australia cricketer labeled Rohit as a great leader who has the brilliant skills of communicating with his players.
"That's great leadership right there. Making sure you're upfront and honest. It's easier to speak to someone when they're included in the squad, it's always hard to speak to someone who has been left out."
