The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, 10th edition, is nearing the end as Australia Women’s National Cricket Team is facing the West Indies Women’s National Cricket Team at the Oval for the first semi-final. During the match, Australia star all-rounder Ellyse Perry suffered an injury during the second innings while she was batting.

Ellyse Perry was retired hurt at the end of the seventh over with a quad issue. There has been no official confirmation about the nature of the injury. Australia are in firm control in the run chase, while chasing a small target of 126 runs. Perry did not bowl in this game and has been playing as a batter for the side.

Ellyse Perry ruled out of World Cup?

Ellyse Perry played a drive at the final ball of the 6th over, mistimed it down the pitch, and it didn't carry to Aaliyah Alleyne, who failed to make a stop. After playing that shot, the physio came out, and the decision was made almost immediately that she would not be able to continue.

Currently, she has been assessed and can return to bat if needed. The six-time T20 World Champions will not risk her as they are close to reaching yet another final. Australia have won the match by 8 wickets, with 7 overs to spare; this is a resounding result, which means Ellyse Perry will not take part in the game further.

Ellyse Perry is still a match-winner for Australia

Ahead of this match, Perry played a sensational role in the final group stage game against India. She bowled just one over in that game and could not find a wicket, but with the bat she performed exceptionally well for the Aussies and clinched the match against Harmanpreet Kaur's side.

The 35-year-old played a brilliant 56-run innings against India off 38 balls with 8 boundaries in that innings. At one stage, the Aussies were struggling 68/3, and from there the veteran, alongside Ashleigh Gardner, stitched a 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket and sealed Australia's victory before getting out.

Australia cruise into the World Cup final

Coming into the match, West Indies were struck with an injury as Deandra Dottin was seen being taken off by her teammates as she had some medical issues, which was confirmed later. Australia Women won the toss and opted to bowl first; openers Hayley Mathews and Qiana Joseph had a decent start before the West Indies skipper was dismissed for 30 runs.

After that, wickets kept on tumbling as 42 runs partnership between Dottin and Jannillea Glasgow helped the Windies go past the 100-run mark as they scored a total of 125 runs in their 20 overs.

While chasing, Beth Mooney set the tone early on, playing the role of the aggressor and delivering a magnificent half-century that effectively ended the contest. She was unbeaten with the score of 61 runs, with Ashleigh Gardner scoring 35* runs off 20 deliveries as Australia cruised into the final once again.

After the match, Sophie Molineux stated that Ellyse Perry is okay and she will be ready for the final. She stated after Australia's win, "[On Perry leaving the field during the match and her fitness] Yeah, a bit of that again. Yeah, I think, just some quad awareness. But it sounds like she should be more than okay to go on Sunday."
