India starts its five-match T20I series against Nicholas Pooran’s team at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, after sweeping the West Indies team in the three-match ODI series earlier this week.

Rohit Sharma, the captain, and eight other cricketers who had all taken a break from the ODI series played in the game. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, a former selection committee chairman and former captain of India, was incredibly displeased with the choice and criticised the selection procedure.

In T20 Cricket You Need All-rounders: Krishnamachari Srikkanth

Speaking to Fan Code after India lost the toss, Srikkanth criticised the omission of Deepak Hooda from the lineup, citing his recent performance for India in ODI and T20I cricket, before arguing that a format like T20 cricket needs more all-rounders in the lineup.

Where is Hooda? questioned Srikkanth. “He did well in T20Is, He did well in ODIs as well. He is the guy who should be there. In T20 cricket you need to understand, that you need all-rounders. Batting all-rounders, bowling all-rounders, so more the all-rounders better for you.”

Shreyas Iyer, who was chosen as the No. 3 batter for India, was not what Srikkanth wanted Rohit to choose.

Hooda has 205 runs, an average of 68.33, a strike rate of 172.66, and a century, in four T20I innings so far in 2022. Iyer, on the other hand, led India to victory in 10 T20Is with 351 runs scored at a strike rate of 151.29 and three fifty-run innings.

As far as the match is concerned WI won the toss and chose to field first. Rohit at the toss said, “Ready to go. Good to have some time off. Pretty excited to get back and get things underway. The first international game is being played here, good to see the fans coming in large numbers. The facility looks good. Will have to look at how the wicket plays. Few guys have left, and few have come back. Quite excited to get underway.”
