Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Riyan Parag’s unbeaten 56*(31) and Kuldeep Sen’s splendid four-wicket haul led Rajasthan Royals to a 29-run victory as well as to the top of the table. In reply to RR’s 144/8, RCB could score only 115.

Gujarat Titans will play their 9th match whereas Royal Challengers Bangalore will play their 10th of the season. The IPL 2022 debutants Gujarat Titans have lost only 1 match out of 8 matches. The team is performing brilliantly under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.

Royal Challengers Bangalore got a great start to their IPL 2022 campaign. But in the last two games, RCB’s batters have failed to perform as after being dismissed for only 68 runs against SunRisers Hyderabad, the team also failed to chase a target of 145 runs against Rajasthan Royals.

At present, Gujarat Titans are in the 1st position and Royal Challengers Bangalore are in the 5th position on the IPL 2022 points table. Royal Challengers Bangalore are fifth in the points table with five wins and four losses from nine league games.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis will have to lead from the front if RCB wants to make a comeback in the competition. The opening batter is currently the top run-scorer for his team with 278 runs from nine games at an average of 30.89.

For the first 8 matches, RCB saw the opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat. While Faf du Plessis has played two stunning knocks to be their current leading run-scorer, Anuj Rawat hasn’t had a good outing in IPL 2022 so far. Anuj Rawat could only manage 129 runs from 8 innings at a poor average of 16 and a strike rate of 109. These aren’t the returns one expects from their front-line batter.

After their humiliating defeat against SRH, they can’t afford to take more risks. Given the situation RCB is in, they can think of playing an experienced Mahipal Lomror instead of Anuj Rawat. Primarily a middle-order batter, Mahipal Lomror has the attacking game to adapt as an opener. He had a decent outing for RR last year and can be a good value add for RCB.

Coming to the middle-order, RCB is currently seeing the worst patch of Virat Kohli. The leading run-scorer in IPL is currently in the worst form of his career having amassed just 128 runs from 9 innings at an average of 16 and a strike rate of 119.62. He now has two golden ducks in his last two games and is in desperate need of a confidence booster.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is playing the ongoing IPL 2022 under Faf Du Plessis who has so far played over 100 games in IPL history. Notably, the 37-year-old scored 633 runs for CSK in last year’s IPL 2021-winning campaign. He top-scored for Royal Challengers Bangalore against PBKS scoring 88, albeit in a losing cause, while he scored 96 in a winning cause against Lucknow Super Giants.

The RCB captaincy had fallen vacant when the previous captain Virat Kohli had announced before the start of the 2021 season that it would be his last as the franchise’s skipper. The veteran batter from South Africa was bought by the RCB for INR 7 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He has smashed 278 runs in IPL 2022 so far averaging 30.89 and is Royal Challengers Bangalore’s leading run-getter.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, the ex-Indian skipper is a right-handed batsman from Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team will expect him to play a big role once again this season. Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the IPL and holds the record for the most number of centuries (4) in an IPL season. He is having a torrid time in IPL 2022 after registering successive ducks in the last 2 matches.

He was retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 15 crores. He scored 48 against Mumbai and is the team’s 5th highest run-getter this season with 128 runs averaging a mere 16 which doesn’t depict a good picture going by Virat Kohli’s caliber and credentials. He may open against Rajasthan in place of Anuj Rawat, who had scored only 129 runs in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 16.13.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik, the man who was responsible for India’s incredible win against Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy final, is donning the RCB jersey for the second time. An incredibly fine wicket-keeper and a decent striker of the ball, Dinesh Karthik is a veteran of more than 200 IPL games.

Royal Challengers Bangalore wrested him from the jaws of Chennai Super Kings after an intense bidding war for Rs 5.50 crore. He has played the role of finisher extremely well and has set IPL 2022 on fire. He is RCB’s 2nd highest scorer in IPL 2022 with 216 runs averaging an impressive 72 and has a high strike rate of 198.16.

Glenn Maxwell

He was RCB’s highest scorer in IPL 2021, amassing 513 runs in 15 IPL games averaging 42.75 with 6 fifties at a strike rate of 144.10. In 6 IPL 2022 games, he has scored 124 runs so far averaging 24.8 including a fifty (55) in the match against Delhi. RCB will hope he will convert starts to substantial knocks. He has also picked a solitary scalp.

The spin bowling all-rounder had a decent season with the bat in the 2021 edition of the league, with his 17 balls 43 being the highlight of the season for him. At the 2022 Mega Auction, Mahipal Lomror was snapped by the RCB for INR 95 lakhs.

He was bought by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) ahead of the ninth season of the IPL before moving to Rajasthan Royals. While he featured only in only five games across IPL 2019 and IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals retained the youngster for the IPL 2021. He is yet to debut for RCB this season but may play in place of Rajat Patidar or Suyash Prabhudessai.

In 5 IPL 2022 matches, he has scored 67 runs averaging 13.4 with a best of 34 in his maiden IPL 2022 season. Rajat Patidar who scored 16 in his only game may retain his place in the XI. Suyash Prabhudessai may have to make way for Mahipal Lomror.

The left-arm spinner, Shahbaz Ahmed was bought back by the RCB at the 2022 IPL Mega Auction. After a bidding war with the KKR, RCB finally got their man for INR 2.4 crore. A fine spinner and a handy batter, Shahbaz Ahmed’s best bowling figure is 3/7.

He has scored 195 runs averaging 32.5 so far in IPL 2022. He is yet to pick a wicket though in IPL 2022, but is RCB’s 3rd highest run-getter this season and has finished vital matches for RCB.

He is RCB’s leading wicket-taker this season with 13 scalps in 9 games averaging 18.84 with a best of 4/20 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

He has 10 scalps in IPL 2022 playing only 5 games averaging an impressive 13.6. His best is 25/4 this season.

Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel fetched a whopping ₹10.75 crore in the IPL Mega Auction as the RCB bought back the Indian pacer. The fast bowler won the Purple Cap in the 2021 edition of the league with 32 wickets in his kitty. He picked 10 wickets so far in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 22.6 which came at an economy of 7.53. The 31-year-old pacer Harshal Patel reportedly left the IPL bio-bubble following the death of his sister. RCB missed him in the game against CSK, which they lost but he returned later.

Mohammed Siraj

One of India’s premier fast bowlers, Mohammed Siraj has risen through the ranks with each passing match. His show with the red and white ball has been the talk of the circuit and his consistency in bowling was rewarded when he was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2022 edition of the league.
