The IPL Governing Council Council has released the list of players who had set themselves at a base of Rs 2 Crore for the IPL 2021 auction. The latest announcement comes in addition to an earlier press-release which stated that as many 1097 players have signed up to go under the hammer, come February 18.

As many as 207 capped, 863 uncapped and 27 Associate players, of which 814 are Indians and 283 overseas have made themselves available for the IPL 2021 auction.

And, it has now been revealed that out of a total 1197 cricketers who have thrown their hat in the ring, 11 have set a base price of Rs 2 Crore- the highest slab of money offered.

The 11 cricketers consist of two Indians and former Chennai Super Kings teammates- Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav.

While Harbhajan Singh bid adieu to the MS Dhoni-led franchise following the expiration of his three-year contract, Kedar Jadhav was released by the three-time champions following a poor IPL 2020.

The nine other players are namely Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy, Mark Wood, and Colin Ingram.

Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith were both released by their respective franchises in Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, as was Moeen Ali by Royal Challengers Bangalore following a poor performance in the last season of the IPL.

Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, missed the last season due to his backdated two-year ban. He has previously represented teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad.

The English group of Jason Roy, Sam Billings, Colin Ingram, Mark Wood have all featured for different franchises in the past but they did not feature in last year’s IPL due to different reasons.

As far as the total number of overseas players from different countries is concerned, West Indies lead the way with as many as 56 players throwing their name in the ring followed by Australia (42), South Africa (38), Sri Lanka (31), Afghanistan (30), New Zealand (29), England (21), UAE (9), Nepal (8), Scotland (7), Bangladesh (5), Ireland (2), USA (2), Zimbabwe (2), Netherlands (1).

According to the press-release-”If, every franchise were to have the maximum of 25 players in their squad, 61 players will be taken in the auction (of which up to 22 may be overseas players)..”
