Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the toss & opted to bat first against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. KKR didn’t change their spin combination of Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma & Sunil Narine despite getting a hammering against RR. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers against RR who showed some sort of control over his line & length.

The hosts got off to a pretty decent start as they scored 52 runs in the powerplay overs for the loss of 1 wicket. Varun Chakaravarthy, the mystery spinner got 2 key wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad & Ajinkya Rahane which brought the visitors back into the game.

Devon Conway was seen playing the role of an anchor on an uneven track. In the 10th over, the lethal pacer Shardul Thakur cramped Devon Conway for room and got his wicket as the left-handed batter tried to play a pull shot but couldn’t connect it properly and all of a sudden, CSK were in a spot of bother at 66-3 in 9.3 overs as Conway was dismissed on 30 runs in 28 balls and had struck 3 fours.

At the end of 10 overs, CSK’s score was 68-3. Sunil Narine was bowling the 11th over, on the very first delivery he castled Ambati Rayudu’s stumps as Rayudu’s torrid run continued. Moeen Ali came into bat and on the last ball of the over, Narine came around the wicket and bowled a carrom ball and knocked off Moeen’s stumps.

Sunil Narine used a lot of variations to fox the batters and most importantly he bowled wicket to wicket and cramped the batters for room. Moeen Ali got out on 1 run in 2 balls. CSK’s score at 11 overs was 72-5.

Crucial Phase for CSK

All eyes would be on Shivam Dube, the left-handed batter, who would be tested as the pitch unexpectedly has turned out to be a minefield. Dube along with Jadeja would be eyeing to stitch a partnership and get their eye in before going berserk as later MS Dhoni can also up the ante.

KKR skipper Nitish Rana would be aware of the fact that they can’t afford to get complacent as CSK have the knack of making unexpected comebacks in the match. If KKR restrict CSK to below 150 runs then they would have a strong chance to make a comeback in the match.
