IPL Points Table 2024: Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After KKR vs RR, Match 31
Updated - 16 Apr 2024, 11:51 PM
Riding on Jos Buttler's unbeaten 107-run knock, Rajasthan Royals chased down 224 runs against KKR to register their sixth win in seven games in IPL 2024. Chasing 224, the table-toppers crossed the finishing line on the last ball of the game.
While RR lost the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (19) and Sanju Samson (12) inside the powerplay, they had raced away to 76 for 2 at the end of it. Riyan Parag fired on all cylinders right from the start but failed to convert his start into a big score.
He hit 34 runs off just 14 balls and shared a 50-run stand with Jos Buttler before being dismissed by Harshit Rana in the eighth over. Three runs later, Sunil Narine dismissed Dhruv Jurel for 3 to reduce RR to 100 for 4. The likes of R Ashwin (8) and Shimron Hetmyer (0) did not last long either as RR found themselves reeling at 121 for 6 in the 13th over.
Buttler completed his fifty in 36 balls before shifting gears. He and Rovman Powell shared a 50-plus stand before the latter departed for 26 in the 17th over. Buttler, however, remained till the end and single-handedly won the game for his side.
Earlier in the game, Sunil Narine's maiden T20 century powered KKR to a daunting total of 223/6 in the allotted 20 overs after they were asked to bat first.
The two-time champions were off to a shaky start as their in-form opener Phil Salt was out for just 10 before Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi shared an 85-run stand for the second wicket. Narine completed his fifty off 29 balls in the 10th over. In the very following over, Kuldeep Sen dismissed Raghuvanshi for 30 to give RR a much-needed breakthrough.
The likes of Shreyas Iyer (11) and Andre Russell (13) could not score big but Narine was going strong at the other end. In the 16th over, he hit Yuzvendra Chahal for two fours and as many sixes to complete a 49-ball ton. He eventually scored 109 runs off 56 balls before being dismissed by Trent Boult. Rinku Singh's unbeaten 20-run cameo helped KKR cross the 220-run mark.
