Virat Kohli became the 12th player in Team India history to play 100 Tests on Friday. The BCCI congratulated Kohli on his 100th Test appearance ahead of the start of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka. Due to the bio-bubble restrictions, head coach Rahul Dravid gave him a commemorative cap and a memento.
Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Ishant Sharma are among those who have played 100 Tests for India.
Gautam Gambhir Praises Virat Kohli:
In the recently concluded first game against Sri Lanka in Mohali, Kohli reached the 100-Test mark. In 68 of these games, the Indian batting mainstay also led the team.
Gautam Gambhir was asked about his thoughts on Kohli reaching the significant milestone during a discussion on Star Sports.
“Massive accomplishment, not only because he is playing his 100th Test, but also because he has captained for such a long time. He was responsible for the development of the Indian pace bowling attack. Their actual development, whether it was related to fitness or skill – Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami – using Jasprit Bumrah in overseas conditions,
I am sure would have been Virat Kohli’s thinking, given that he [Bumrah] is only playing his third or fourth Test in India. All of these strategies are only prepared by a captain.”
MS Dhoni drafted all of these fast bowlers when they were in their infancy. On the pace bowling front, Rohit Sharma’s team is far superior to what Virat Kohli received from MS Dhoni. So you’ll have to give Virat credit here.”
Kohli became the 12th Indian cricketer to play 100 Tests. He also crossed the 8000-run mark during the Mohali Test but will hope to end his more than two-year-long century drought in Bengaluru.
