Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja thanked skipper Rohit Sharma for giving him the opportunity to bat up in the batting order in the second T20I against Sri Lanka. Jadeja came in to bat at No.5 at the start of the 14th over when India needed 58 runs to chase 184.

Jadeja relived the pressure of Shreyas Iyer, who was batting at 64 from 36 balls at that point. The left-handed batter leaned forward and found the gap to push the ball over the extra cover region boundary on his first ball against Chamika Karunaratne.

The all-rounder’s quickfire knock helped India chase the target with 2.5 overs left and eventually seal the T20I series 2-0 with one game left. Jadeja said he would continue to play according to the situation and help India win matches with his dexterity with the bat.

“Yeah, absolutely, you know, I would like to thank Rohit because he trusted me and believed in me that I can score runs for my team.

“Hopefully, whenever I get an opportunity in the future, I’ll try and give my best, play according to the situation, and win the game for my team,” Jadeja said in the post-match press conference.

Iyer remained undefeated on 74 as he scored his second fifty on the trot in the T20I series. The Mumbai batter is currently leading the scoring charts of the T20I series between India and Sri Lanka with 131 runs at the strike rate of 181.94, the final T20I will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
