Former Indian player Wasim Jaffer said that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is a three format player for the Indian cricket team.

Jadeja scored a breathtaking 175* against Sri Lanka in the first Test as India posted a gigantic total of 574/8 in the first innings. Jadeja wasn’t done yet as he rattled Sri Lanka’s batting order with his bowling prowess, picking a five-for in the first innings as the visitors were bowled out at 174.

The Saurashtra all-rounder claimed four more wickets in the second innings to end the match with the figures of 9/87. Jadeja is currently holding a ‘A’ category annual player contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India as issued in April 2021.

Jaffer is of the opinion that the Indian all-rounder deserves to be promoted in his annual contract as he can win the team matches with both the bat and ball in all three formats.

“He is just showing in the ‘A+’ category as far as the contract goes, he is not there yet but I think his performance-wise as a bowler and as a batter he can win you games on his batting in India specially and he can win you series as a bowler,” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.

“He is going from strength to strength, he is a three format player and just wonderful to see the way he showcases his skills and wins you Test matches with his batting and bowling as well,” he added.

Jadeja became the first player in the history of the game to score 150-plus runs and pick nine wickets in the same Test match.

Jadeja scored 70 runs in three innings at an impressive strike rate of 189.19 in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, he was unbeaten in all three games. The Saurashtra all-rounder smashed 45 off 18 balls in the second T20I match in Dharamshala as India chased 184 with 2.5 overs to spare.
