Indian skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praise on senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s performance in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. On Monday, India won its first Test series under Rohit’s leadership after they defeated the visitors by 238 runs in the second Test at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Jadeja was phenomenal in the first Test in Mohali as he displayed his all-round brilliance to wrap the game inside three days. Jadeja smashed an unbeaten 175 in the first innings as India posted a gigantic total of 574/8.

The Saurashtra all-rounder extended his magnificence performance with the ball as he rattled Sri Lanka’s batting order by picking a five-for in the first innings as the visitors were bowled out at 174. He snapped four more wickets in the second innings to end the match with the figures of 9/87.

Rohit said Jadeja has grown as a batter and also lauded his talent with his bowling and fielding which strengthens the team by ticking all the boxes.

“It’s been a good run, and I have enjoyed it personally and as a team. We wanted to achieve a few things as a team, and we have done that. We have seen Ravindra Jadeja grow as a batter, and he seems to get better and better.

“He strengthens the team, and he’s also improving as a bowler. And he’s a gun fielder, so he is a complete package,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony. 

This was India’s third win in Day-Night Test matches at home since they played Bangladesh for the first time in November 2019 in Eden Gardens. Rohit said the team is still learning to play with the pink ball and try to adjust to its challenges.

“Pink-ball Tests are challenging. We never know what it was like to play with the pink ball in India, but we are learning to make those adjustments. The crowd just makes it more special,” Rohit said.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was named as the player of the series for his stupendous batting, scoring 185 at an average of 61.67 and a strike rate of 120.13. Pant scored the fastest fifty by an Indian player in 28 balls in the second innings of the Day-Night Test.
