"Sri Lanka Is No Match For This Indian Side," Asserts Aakash Chopra

The first Test between Team India and Sri Lanka at Mohali was declared a no-contest, according to Aakash Chopra.

In Mohali, India hammered Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in just three days. Once the hosts scored a gigantic score of 574-8 declared in their first innings, Dimuth Karunaratne’s side was never in contention.

Chopra stated in a video posted to his YouTube channel that given the one-sided character of the match, coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma may regret not enabling Ravindra Jadeja to record a double-century.

“Do you consider this to be a match?” This is referred to as a mismatch. Sri Lanka is no match for India’s squad. When Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma look back, they may wonder why they declared; 200 could have been scored if the match had gone to the fourth day.

If there isn’t a competition, what will context do? The context has emerged as a result of the WTC; you earn points for each match and series, but where is the fun if there is no competition if the gap between the two teams is too wide? If you have such one-sided meetings, you are not restoring Test cricket; it will die and be buried.

Team India’s complete dominance over the visitors was discussed by Aakash Chopra. He went on to say:

“Despite playing one fewer hitter, India scored 575 runs. They don’t take the word “stop” seriously. The opposing team is forced to follow on; the Indian spinners rip through the opposition; one spinner did not take a single wicket, yet the opposition could not even stand.”

While Rohit Sharma’s team improved their prospects of reaching the WTC final, Sri Lanka appears to be a no-hoper, according to the 44-year-old. Chopra stated.

“If we look at the WTC points table, India was a mid-table squad, but we’ll earn 100 per cent tonight and climb slightly upwards. The opposition team claims that they will not be able to qualify since we are not capable of doing so.”
