Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that he is more than happy to help out the three potential captaincy candidates for Team India – KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah – whenever they are in need of assistance.

Since Rohit is in his mid-30s, he cannot be the captain for long and the chairman of selectors, Chetan Sharma, has already stated that they have the above-mentioned players in mind for the role in the future. If there comes a time when the trio needs help, Rohit is happy to contribute.

I won’t have that much of a role in telling them each and everything, they all are mature enough. It is just when someone needs to be there around them to guide them, I will be more than happy to do that.

It is how we have come through the ranks, we were groomed by someone else. It is a natural process, everyone goes through this,” Rohit said in the virtual press conference ahead of the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

If you talk of Bumrah, Rahul, and Pant, they have a big role to play in India’s success, they are looked upon as leaders as well. They do understand there is a responsibility on their shoulders, but we do not want to put any pressure on them as they are critical for us. We just want them to enjoy the game and execute their skills,” Rohit added.

Rohit also provided good news for the Indian team fans as he currently feels good enough to take part in most of the matches. Since he was named the captain of the Test side as well, Rohit’s workload will increase but he is confident about playing all the matches in the Sri Lanka series.

As far as I am concerned, there are no issues, I am looking forward to playing all the games. The workload depends on what happens thereafter, you take it day by day. If there is an opportunity to take a break, you take a break. At the moment, it seems to be okay,” he concluded.

Rohit’s first match as the Test captain will be against Sri Lanka when the two sides meet in Mohali next month.
