Suresh Raina has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the IPL. But he has been far from contention to play for the Indian cricket team. Suresh Raina made his last international appearance in 2018 during India’s tour of England and since then has been out-of-favour of the side.

Raina batted at No.3 Or the fourth spot in his career which now belongs to Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer in the recent scheme of things as far as the limited-overs is concerned. In fact, in the last IPL season Raina did not look up to the mark though he makes it to the core group of CSK players.

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg said that Raina has been a revelation for India and one of the finest fielders the country has seen. But as far as the current India line-up looks, Raina will not have a role in the side. He also added that Raina is a kind of a batsman, who cannot bat lower down the order.

“Suresh Raina has been a revelation in Indian cricket. One of the better fielders we have seen at the world stage from India. He’s a fantastic left-handed batsman,” Brad Hogg said on YouTube.

“But if you look at Indian line-up right now, where Virat Kohli wants to take it, he is looking at youngsters at the moment. And Shreyas Iyer has done reasonably well at no. 4 and that is where Raina is going to bat. I don’t see him batting lower down the order. He’s more of the batsman that comes in at no.3 or 4 and bats through the middle overs. I don’t think there is a role for him in Indian cricket,” he added.

Raina has begun his training for IPL 2020 as CSK will reportedly be one the first team to depart for the lucrative tournament.

Raina averages 25 in Tests, 35 in ODIs and nearly 30 in the shortest format of the game.
