Asia Cup 2022: Win Over India Was Brilliant; Pakistan Have Got What It Takes To Excel In Australia – Pakistan Mentor Matthew Hayden

Former Australia National Cricket Team player Matthew Hayden has been appointed as the mentor of the Pakistan National Cricket Team for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is set to be held in October-November in Australia. He recently applauded Babar Azam-led side’s win over Rohit Sharma-led India in the Asia Cup 2022.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, which was held in UAE, Team Pakistan managed to reach the semi-finals after defeating India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia in the group stage. However, they lost a thriller against Australia in the semi-final game to get knocked out of the tournament. Notably, Hayden had worked with the team during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as well. Also, Matthew Hayden will be joining Team Pakistan in Brisbane on October 15.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Pakistan mentor said that he has been watching the games of the Men In Green in the ongoing multi-nation tournament.

“I have seen how Pakistan have been performing in the ACC T20 Asia Cup and Sunday’s win over India was brilliant,” said Hayden in a PCB statement.

In the ongoing Asia Cup, the Men In Blue and the Men In Green went head-to-head twice with both sides winning one game each. India defeated Pakistan in the group stage by 5 wickets and Pakistan defeated India by 5 wickets in the Super 4 stage.

Australian conditions will really suit them – Matthew Hayden

The 50-year-old further said that Babar Azam and Co. have got everything it takes to excel in Australia. He added that the Australian conditions will really suit the side.

“I think this Pakistan side has got what it takes to excel in Australia and the conditions will really suit them, both from a batting and bowling perspective. This team has all of its bases covered and I’m sure it will light up the World Cup as it did in the UAE last year.

“I feel privileged to be given an opportunity to pass on all my experience and knowledge about all conditions in Australia and can’t wait to be back in the Pakistan dressing room.”

While talking about Hayden’s appointment, PCB chief Ramiz Raja said:

“He is a proven performer with his credentials acknowledged and recognised world-over. He brings with him wealth of knowledge about Australia conditions and I am confident his involvement will significantly benefit our extremely talented cricketers for the World Cup and future tours Down Under.”
