The Asia Cup 2022 is set to get underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 27 when hosts Sri Lanka take on Afghanistan in Dubai.

Virat Kohli’s eyes on Asia Cup return; focus on Pakistan clash

The most anticipated clash will be India vs Pakistan on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the same venue where Babar Azam and his men posted a monumental win by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup last year.

The focus in the Indian side will be on senior player Kohli who has been out of form with runs in the last few months.

Kohli has a great track record against Pakistan in T20Is, having scored 311 runs in seven innings at an average of 77.75 with three half-centuries.

Pakistan are aware that Virat Kohli can make a strong comeback: Danish Kaneria

Kaneria suggested Pakistan to ensure Kohli doesn’t get to break his jinx against them. The former Pakistan spinner also acknowledged that Asia Cup 2022 will determine the position of the senior Indian batter in the T20 World Cup squad.

There will be fear in the minds of Pakistani players due to the talk around Virat Kohli’s form. They are aware that he can make a strong comeback. It will be important for Pakistan not to let him come back into form. If he regains his form, he will be unstoppable,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

“The Asia Cup is going to be very important for Virat Kohli. He needs to score runs in this tournament. He can’t afford to fail as there are a lot of players waiting for their turn and you cannot keep them out of the side for long. I feel that he will be back with a bang in this Asia Cup. The time has come to silence the critics,” he added.

There is a high possibility of India and Pakistan facing each other three times in the upcoming continental tournament.
