Aakash Chopra Picks India's First-Choice Seamers And Backup Options For T20 World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has picked the first-choice pacers and four backup options for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The T20 World Cup will take place in the UAE between October 17-November 14 and the Indian think tank will be looking to zero in on the playing combination on the basis of performances in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and the IPL which will precede the quadrennial event.

The upcoming series against Sri Lanka will consist of three ODIs and as many T20Is and it will kickstart with the 50-over rubber from July 13 in Colombo.

Speaking on his official Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra picked the trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Deepak Chahar as India’s first-choice seamers for the T20 World Cup.

“You need at least one fast bowler because you have already picked three fast bowlers or if you pick two fast bowlers, you might not look at an additional spinner. We have already kept three spinners – Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal.” said Aakash Chopra.

Chopra picked Mohammed Shami and T Natarajan as backup options.

“Mohammed Shami front-runner, he might not be there in Sri Lanka but is still a front-runner. Natarajan is injured and not there in Sri Lanka but is still one of the front-runners,” he said.

The cricketer-turned commentator signed off by stating that the selector might look to keep Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur as backup seam-bowling options for the T20 World Cup.

”Saini and Shardul Thakur. Thakur is in England while Saini is in Sri Lanka. You might want to look at one out of these four fast bowlers. I don’t think of anybody else at this point in time.”

”I don’t think you will be able to look at anyone else, that you will get a name suddenly, like Harshal Patel, out of the box,” he added.
