Asia Cup 2023: "Few Guys Coming..." - Rahul Dravid Drops Massive Hint About KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer's Comeback

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid dropped a massive hint about the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. He mentioned that few players will be returning to the team after injuries and they will be giving them opportunities in the tournament. 

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have missed a lot of action for India due to the injuries they faced. Their absence has left a massive void in the Indian middle order as the team have lost quite a few games and haven’t been able to find perfect replacements for them. 

Shreyas Iyer suffered a back injury during the Test series against Australia earlier this year whereas KL Rahul faced a thigh injury during the IPL 2023. They both underwent surgeries and have been toiling hard at the NCA. But there has been no confirmation about when they will be making a comeback in the team. 

Few reports have suggested that India might not rush them and name them in the squad for the Asia Cup 2023. But based on the videos of their net practice that are surfing on social media, it seems that we might see them in the upcoming tournament. 

India haven’t named the squad for the Asia Cup 2023 and they will be having a camp at NCA from 23rd August to prepare for the tournament. It is expected that both will be part of the camp and we will be getting a clear picture of that. 

Rahul Dravid dropped a hint about their comeback and said that he hasn’t thought about Asia Cup yet and will be looking into it when the camp takes place. Speaking after the T20I series loss against West Indies, he explained: 

“We have a few guys coming back from injuries in any case. We are going to have to give them opportunities to play (in Asia Cup). I haven’t really thought about Asia Cup at this stage. We have a one-week camp in Bengaluru from August 23. We’ll be assembling there as a one-day team. We will take it as it comes.”

Asia Cup 2023: Finding depth in our batting has been an area we are trying to address – Rahul Dravid 

After the T20I series loss against West Indies, Rahul Dravid opened up about the areas they lacked. He said that they are looking to find depth in their batting and they are doing their best to improve. He explained: 

“I think in terms of our squad here, probably it didn’t allow us the flexibility in some ways to be able to change the combinations a little bit. But I think going forward, we’ve got to look at certain areas in which we can get better. 

Finding depth in our batting has been an area we are trying to address. We are trying to do the best we possibly can but that’s certainly an area we can look at, how we cannot weaken our bowling attack but ensure have a certain amount of depth in batting,” he concluded.
