Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the replacement of the injured Shakib Al Hasan for the remainder of the ICC World Cup 2023. Anamul Haque will be taking up the captain’s place in the team whereas vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the team.

Shakib Al Hasan injured himself during Bangladesh’s game against Sri Lanka. He got a fracture on his left index finger and was deemed unfit to take part in the further stage of the tournament. The captain now will be heading back home as his tournament is over because Bangladesh has only one game left.

Although Bangladesh have been knocked out of the tournament, Shakib Al Hasan’s absence will be a massive blow for the team. It’s because the team’s qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025 is at stake. The all-rounder found his touch back and played a vital knock against Sri Lanka.

Shakib Al Hasan scored 82 runs and helped his side win the game against Sri Lanka. He also picked two wickets with the ball and was awarded Player of the Match. His absence surely would hamper the balance of the team for the last game.

Anamul Haque on the other hand has a decent record in ODIs. He has played 45 games for the team and has scored 1258 runs. The keeper-batter also has smashed three tons and has an average of 29.95 in the 50-over format.
