BCCI Postpones Annual General Meeting Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that they won’t conduct its Annual General Meeting anytime before September 30. The BCCI mentioned that because of the COVID-19 pandemic they will be issuing a new date for the Annual General Meeting for the financial year 2020-21, BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote a letter regarding it.

“Owing to prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the Tamil Nadu Government in their G.O.(D). No. 96 dated 30th June 2021 (“Government Order”) have extended the period for a registered society under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975, to conduct an Annual General Meeting for the financial year 2020-2021, by three months, from September 2021 to December 2021,” Shah’s letter read, as reported by news agency ANI.

“In view thereof, you are hereby informed that the BCCI will not have its Annual General Meeting by 30 September 2021. We will keep you informed regarding the date of the Annual General Meeting,” the letter added.

BCCI to host ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE

Last year, the BCCI had conducted the 89th Annual General Meeting on December 24. Some of the board officials were recently present in England to watch the second Test between India and England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, where the visitors won by 151 runs.

The board also had a meeting with captain Virat Kohli regarding the roadmap of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which the BCCI will host jointly in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

While the T20 World Cup was initially set to be held in India, it was shifted to UAE because of the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country had worsened during May in the second wave. Not only the T20 World Cup but also the second phase of IPL will be played in UAE. The tournament resumes on September 19 with defending champions Mumbai Indians lock horns with Chennai Super Kings.
