A disciplinary committee constituted by Sri Lankan Cricket Board has found Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella guilty of breaching the bio-secure protocols during the island nation’s tour of England last month and has recommended lengthy sanctions from all forms of the game.

A major controversy erupted in Sri Lankan cricket last month when the trio of Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendia, and Niroshan Dickwella were caught loitering on the streets of Durham in what was a blatant breach of the bio-secure protocols.

The three players were immediately sent home with SLC forming a five-member disciplinary committee chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the matter.

And, now the committee has urged SLC to ban former vice-captain Kusal Mendis and opener Danushka Gunathilaka for a period of two years from all forms of the game and an 18-month suspension for stumper Dickwella.

Besides that, the three players have been fined US$25000 or Ra 5 million each.

The recommendation punishment will be implemented following the approval by the Executive Committee of Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC).

If the recommendations do get the desired approval then this will be the highest fine ever imposed on a Sri Lankan player for breaching the disciplinary protocols. And, if the players do get suspended, they will not be allowed to participate in any activity related to Sri Lankan cricket.
