Former Indian wicket-keeper Saba Karim has opined that the young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant still needs to “evolve a bit” in the One Day Internationals and T20 Internationals.

The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, at a very young age, has become India’s all-format wicket-keeper. So far he has represented India in 29 Test games, 24 One Day International games and 43 T20 International games. Also, he is part of the leadership group and is being looked at as a future captain.

Speaking during a discussion on wicket-keepers on the Khelneeti podcast, Karim said Pant is having a big impact in cricket and his value is “slowly rising” in the team. He added that Pant is “constantly improving” his game in Test cricket and he will soon become a “complete player”.

“We are seeing Rishabh Pant grow. He is having a big impact and his value is slowly rising in the team. I feel he still needs to evolve a bit in white-ball cricket. He needs to achieve a lot. But in Test cricket, he is constantly improving and is adding a lot of value to the team. I feel he will soon be a complete player across formats, which will be very good for India.”

Karim also showered praise on the legendary Indian captain and wicket-keeper MS Dhoni, stating that India did not have a match-winner wicket-keeper before Dhoni came to the Indian team.

“From an Indian perspective, he has had a massive impact. After MS Dhoni came in, the Indians started feeling that they have found a match-winner. With all due respect, before Dhoni India did not have a wicketkeeper who was a match-winner as well.

“And he was a match-winner not only in white-ball but red-ball cricket as well. When Gilchrist started succeeding for Australia, India always thought we should also have someone like him and Dhoni proved to be the one.”
