Every bowler’s goal is to get MS Dhoni’s wicket at some point. Even though Dhoni is still playing in the IPL despite having retired from international cricket, every bowler aims for Dhoni’s wicket whenever a team faces the Chennai Super Kings.

While it was a great occasion for the South African bowler, 28-year-old Jitesh Sharma was equally pleased because it was him who grabbed the catch to remove Dhoni during the 11th encounter between Punjab Kings and CSK this year.

Jitesh Sharma Recalls The DRS Appeal That Took The Wicket Of MS Dhoni

Sharma’s usage of the Decision Review System, which Dhoni is an expert in, to secure the wicket made the occasion even more enjoyable.

While the umpire first ruled that Dhoni was out caught down the leg side by Rahul Chahar, Sharma was confident that a bat was involved and persuaded his skipper Mayank Agarwal to go upstairs.

After closer inspection, the ultra-edge discovered a spike as the ball passed the bat, and Dhoni was subsequently ruled out.

“It was just an instinct. I give my 100 percent whenever I walk out into the field. One can even say I put out my 110 percent. That’s the kind of person I am. I love to win and I want to be on the ground be it fielding, batting, planning, strategizing, be it in any capacity – I want to be on the field.

It was an instinctive appeal. I just had a feeling that there was a wooden sound and I should go for an appeal. I know that I was not able to control my emotions because I knew that MS Dhoni sir was out,” Sharma told Dr. Yash Kashikar on his show ‘Say Yash to Sports’

In the game, Dhoni’s departure was an important turning moment. CSK were in danger with 98/7 and PBKS defending 180, but there remained hope as long as Dhoni was batting. The CSK captain’s innings, however, was cut short at 23, and PBKS then shut down CSK to 126 to win the game by 54 runs.
