IND vs SL: He Has Got To Think About It – Sunil Gavaskar Wants Rohit Sharma To Avoid Playing His Trademark Pull Shot

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has said that the India National Cricket Team all-format captain Rohit Sharma should think about his trademark pull shot and urged him to avoid playing a lot of pull shots.

The pull shot of the Hitman is a double-edged sword for him as he has scored a lot of runs with that shot but on the other hand, he has got out numerous times playing a pull shot in Test, ODI and T20I formats. In the recently concluded first Test match of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, Rohit started off brilliantly but got out against Lahiru Kumara after playing a pull shot.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar has said that the pull shot is Rohit’s one of the most productive shots but he has got a lot of other shots that he can use otherwise it will become an easy strategy for the bowlers to dismiss him.

“He has got to think about it. You can argue that it is a productive shot but that is not the only shot. He has got so many others. Now every bowler who has a little bit of pace will fancy his chances against him saying, ‘I don’t mind going for a couple of sixes or boundaries but there will be an opportunity because he hits the ball in the air’,” he said while speaking to Star Sports.

Batting legend Gavaskar added that the Indian captain needs to “work the percentages out” and if he feels that the percentages are in favour he should continue playing pull shots. He added that Rohit should refrain from using pull shots until he reaches a substantial score.

“So he has got to work the percentages out. If he still thinks that the percentages are working in his favour, then go on playing but at the moment, they aren’t working in his favour. So maybe he should put it in cold storage till he gets to 80,90, 100,” Gavaskar added.
