The Asia Cup 2023 has been shifted to a neutral venue which has resulted in a massive blow to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). PCB had conducted successful tours of Australia, England & New Zealand and all the touring teams were quite happy with the safety & security.

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi would be crestfallen as now there are talks going on that PCB won’t get the hosting rights as well of the championship. UAE has emerged as the most likely venue for the Asia Cup 2023 and Qatar has also shown interest to host the event.

Khaled Mahmood was having an interaction with the media and was asked about the venue shift of Asia Cup 2023.

“The world doesn’t run on ideology and principles; else ICC should show their power and tell India ‘who are you not to go and play Asia Cup in Pakistan?’ But India has a great influence on ICC. If We host Asia Cup without India and without their players, corporate sponsorship will all stop. The big money will stop. And it won’t be a glamorous tournament without them. It would be a weak tournament. We will also lose money.” said Khaled Mahmood.

PCB in Deep Trouble

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi had threatened that they may pull out of ICC World Cup 2023 which is staged in India. PCB would be well aware of the fact that if they boycott ODI WC then they may get banned. It won’t be wrong to say that UAE pitches would give ample practice for the marquee event.

ICC must intervene and find a middle ground because India & Pakistan have a fascinating rivalry. In Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, the board members had taken a decision to increase the revenue of Afghanistan from 6 to 15 which is a great initiative taken by ACC to make the game more balanced.
