Indian captain Virat Kohli has said that the team is not really worried about them qualifying for the World Test Championship final despite them getting dropped to the 4th spot in the table following a 227-run defeat to England at Chepauk.

India was knocked over for a mere 192 during their fourth-innings run-chase of 420 as James Anderson ran riot on the final day of the opening Test in Chennai.

This is India’s first defeat in Chennai after a period of 22 years besides being just the second defeat that they have suffered on home soil since the start of 2013.

India will need to ensure that they win the Test series by a margin of 2-1 or 3-1 to book their spot in the ICC World Test Championship final but Virat said that the home side will be solely focused on the task at the hand and not about external factors.

“We will look at the upcoming games in the same way as we have looked up till now. Nothing changes for us, If suddenly the rules can change when you are in lockdown nothing is in your control at all. The only thing which is in your control is what you do on the field,” said Virat Kohli during the virtual press conference

“So you are not bothered about the table or the things which are going outside. For somethings, there is no logic for something you can have a debate for hours as much as you want. The only thing you can control as the side is playing good cricket and that’s our only focus regardless of who is on top of the table,” Kohli added.

The second Test between India and England will take place at the same venue as the first one on Saturday, February 13.
