Former Indian player Parthiv Patel said that Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will take the challenge of leading the Ahmedabad franchise in IPL 2022.

The Ahmedabad franchise announce its signings on Friday for IPL 2022 as Pandya along with Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan and Indian batter Shubman Gill were roped in by the new team.

Hardik was born in Choryasi, a place in the Surat district of Indian state Gujarat and the 28-year-old will be leading the Ahmedabad franchise in its maiden season of IPL.

Hardik Pandya will take up the challenge: Parthiv Patel

Parthiv, who himself was born in Ahmedabad, said that Hardik will do well for the new team on the field with his all-round brilliance.

We haven’t seen him as captain yet. But I am sure he will take up the challenge and do well in the role,” Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.

Hardik Pandya has experience in both batting and bowling: Zaheer Khan

The Indian all-rounder scored 1476 runs from 85 IPL innings and claimed 42 scalps and also won four titles in his long stint with the five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians.

Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan, who is Director of Cricket Operations at Mumbai Indians, said that any team will be beneficial to have a leader like Hardik.

Hardik Pandya has experience in both batting and bowling and can use that in his captaincy. He always steps in with energy. It will be an advantage for any team to have a captain like him who plays with such energy,” Zaheer asserted.

Apart from Hardik (INR 15 crore), the Ahmedabad franchise has picked Afghanistan’s sensational spinner Rashid Khan (15 crore) and opening batter Shubman Gill (8 crore) as their three signings for IPL 2022.

Former England player Vikram Solanki, who recently quit from Surrey’s head coach role, has been appointed as Ahmedabad team’s Director of Cricket.

The 2011 World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten (with the Indian team) will be serving dual roles of mentor and batting coach of the Ahmedabad outfit while former Indian pace bowler Ashish Nehra will be the head coach.
