England and Rajasthan Royals paceman Jofra Archer has received the green signal to resume some light training this week, having undergone surgery to remove a piece of glass from his left middle finger in March. Jofra Archer, who was to play for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing season of IPL in India, might miss the entire competition to remain fit for the English summer. England Cricket Board has permitted Archer to return to do some light training.

Jofra Archer toured India earlier this year in February despite suffering the injury, which the ECB’s medical team managed it well enough. The Barbadian featured in two Tests and all five T20Is; however, he got ruled out of the ODI series. He returned to England and underwent a successful injury. But there is no decision on whether the right-arm speedster would be able to fulfil his IPL duties.

A statement from England Cricket Board said that Jofra Archer has received the green signal from his hand consultant to resume training as it continues to heal following the surgery on 29th March. The 25-year would return to light training sessions, working closely with Sussex and England men’s medical teams, hoping Archer could elevate his intensity from next week. The board also revealed that it remains unclear so far when he would return to playing.

England and Sussex bowler Jofra Archer has been given the all-clear by his hand Consultant to resume training after his right hand continues to heal following his operation on Monday 29 March. He will return to light training this week, working closely with the Sussex and England men’s medical teams. It is hoped that he will be able to up his intensity with his bowling from next week. A further update on his elbow injury will be provided once he has returned to bowling to assess the effectiveness of his recent injection. No decision has been made as yet on when Archer is due to return to playing,” an ECB statement said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals team director Kumar Sangakkara does not want to rush Jofra Archer into playing since his career is not restricted to one IPL season. Sangakkara claimed being aware of Archer’s value to world and English cricket and the experts from England cricket are guiding them how to look after the paceman.

We want to give him every opportunity to recover and be able to play some part in this tournament. We have to be concerned about him as a player because his career is long term and is not restricted to just one season and the IPL. His value to world cricket and to England cricket is part of our decision and we will be guided by the experts in English cricket who look after Jofra. It’s not something we look at selfishly and we take a holistic view of how important Jofra is,” Sangakkara stated as quoted by Daily Mail.
