Mohammad Kaif, Amit Mishra Laud BCCI For Increasing Pension Of Former Indian Players

Former Indian cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Amit Mishra lauded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the decision to increase the monthly pension of former Indian players (both men and women).

On Monday (June 13), a day when the BCCI closed in on a six billion dollar media rights deal for the next cycle of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Indian cricket board announced to hike in the pension for its former cricketers.

The first-class players, who used to get INR 15,000 will now get INR 30,000 and former Test players will get INR 60,000 instead of INR 37,500. Those players who used to receive a pension of INR 50,000 will be getting INR 70,000 in their bank accounts.
The retired women international players, who used to receive INR 30,000 will be getting INR 52,500 while the first-class players who retired before 2003 will get INR 45,000 instead of INR 22,500.
“I’m pleased to announce an increase in the monthly pension of former cricketers (men & women) and match officials. Around 900 personnel will avail of this benefit and close to 75% of personnel will be beneficiaries of a 100 PC raise,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted on Monday.

Kaif, whose father Mohammad Tarif played 60 first-class games for Uttar Pradesh and Railways between 1964 and 1983, thanked the BCCI for its major support to former cricketers in the financial aspect.
“Thanks, BCCI, this means a lot to retired players. My father, Mohammad Tarif, is always very happy when he gets his pension. Money gives security, recognition makes you proud,” Kaif wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“My father played 60 first-class games. Scored close to 3000 runs, and hit 5 hundreds. His generation helped the game grow when there was no money. By remembering their contribution, BCCI has shown a big heart,” he wrote further.
“Wow, great decision by @bcci and Mr @jayshah ji. A remarkable decision which will be followed by many foreign boards soon,” Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra tweeted. 
The BCCI will also increase the money of the former match officials apart from helping the former players.
