Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody said that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have let down KL Rahul after the loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He feels that the captain isn’t to be blamed for the loss instead it was the team that needs to take responsibility.

Lucknow Super Giants (LGS) had a horrendous game against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Lucknow. It wasn’t that they performed poorly but they handed the game to the opposition, which they had in their court for most of the time.

They first had a sensational outing with the ball as they restricted GT to a total of just 135 runs. After that, it was the near-perfect start for them with the bat as they stitched 55 runs for the opening partnership. It seemed that they would finish the game even before the 20 overs.

Skipper KL Rahul looked good to the eyes and scored a half-century and had crucial partnerships with Kyle Mayers and Krunal Pandya. Even after losing wickets, they were favourites to win the game as they needed 30 runs in 35 balls.

But GT bowled brilliantly and held their nerves and made LSG batters toil hard with Mohit Sharma being the wrecker the chief and folded the game for his side by 7 runs.

Tom Moody said that the way LSG structured their strategy around the batting order which was the main difference between the two games. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said:

“I don’t think any blame is on KL Rahul. I think the team has let him down. He and Kyle Mayers, at the top of the order, set the ideal platform to chase the target down.

“Whether Krunal Pandya should have come at No. 3 or not, still his contribution was adequate after that start. The rest of the team, and the way it was structured, as in the strategy around the batting order, was the difference.”

Skipper KL Rahul opened up about the loss. He said that they have to take it on the chin but can’t point fingers where it went wrong.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said: “I don’t know how it happened, but it has happened. I can’t put a finger on where it went wrong, but we lost 2 points today, this is cricket. I thought we were brilliant with the ball, 135 was 10 runs under par, the bowling was exceptional, and we started well with the bat, but these things happen, we’ll have to take it on the chin.”

LSG will next be seen in action when they will take on Punjab Kings in their next game on Friday (28th April).
