The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly given a clean chit to Mohsin Naqvi over his dual role in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as well as the Pakistan government.

Last month, Mohsin Naqvi replaced Zaka Ashraf as the PCB chief for a three-year term. At the time of his appointment, he was also serving as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab. Recently, he was also appointed as the Interior Minister as well although he announced that he would not be taking any salary in his role.

The post of PCB chairman is honorary, but it also comes with numerous perks and privileges. Unsurprisingly, there were speculations that the ICC might take action against the PCB due to its chief’s dual role since it does not allow political interference.

However, Cricket Pakistan has reported that the ICC has given Mohsin Naqvi a clean chit. The report stated that the apex body of the game has no objection to Naqvi’s dual roles, as they do not consider it political interference. The ICC sources have backed the new PCB chief by highlighting that political figures holding top positions in cricket boards are not new.

It has happened in different countries including India. At present, Nazmul Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, is also serving as the Youth and Sports Minister.

Mohsin Naqvi’s big decision:

Mohsin Naqvi has made a big decision to improve the fielding standards of the Pakistan team. He has decided that the players will be training with the Pakistan army from March 25 to April 8. The camp will take place just one week after the conclusion of the ongoing PSL 2024. After the camp, the players will start their preparations for the T20 World Cup,

“When I was watching the matches in Lahore, I don’t think a single one of you hit a six that went into the stands,” Naqvi told the players in a hotel earlier this month. “Whenever a six like that was hit, I used to think a foreign player must have hit that. I have asked the board to make a plan that gets every player’s fitness up to speed. You’ll have to make a proper effort for that.

“We have New Zealand coming up, then Ireland, England and the T20 World Cup. I wondered, ‘When will we train?’ but there was no time. However, we’ve found a window, where we’ve organized a camp in Kakul (military academy) from March 25 to April 8. The Pakistan Army will be involved in your training, and hopefully, they’ll help you out,” he added.
