Babar Azam to become Pakistan captain once again under new PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi- Reports

According to reports, Babar Azam is likely to become captain of the Pakistan National Cricket team once again. Some sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have alleged that Babar Azam is likely to be reinstated as skipper under new PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Mohsin Naqvi was recently appointed as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He replaced Zaka Ashraf from the post and became the 37th chairman of PCB. Naqvi previously served as the interim Chief Minister of the Punjab state of Pakistan and assumed the chairmanship of the Pakistan Cricket Board in the recent elections.

Some PCB sources have told Pakistan media that the new PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is going to undertake significant chances under his leadership. Babar Azam will be renamed as Pakistan skipper once again.

The right-handed batter quit his captaincy after ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Pakistan gave a miserable show in the tournament, failing to qualify for the semi-finals. They also lost to Afghanistan and faced a massive defeat against Team India.

After Babar Azam’s ouster as skipper, PCB named Shan Masood as the new captain in Tests. They also named Shaheen Afridi as the new skipper in T20Is. However, due to Pakistan team’s poor outing in their first-ever captain under them, PCB is likely to get back to Babar Azam for captainship.

Pakistan lost Test series to Australia 3-0

Pakistan suffered horrible results in the recent series against New Zealand and Australia. Under Test skipper Shan Masood, Pakistan lost a three-match Test series to Australia. They also all the three games to Australia with a humiliating show.

Pakistan lost the 1st Test by 360 runs, 2nd Test by 79 runs, and the 3rd Test by 8 wickets. Australia bagged victories by huge margins in all games to grab a clean sweep in the series. They also moved down in the ICC World Test Championship points table rankings after the series defeat.

Pakistan lost T20I series vs New Zealand under new skipper Shaheen Afridi

Later, Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand. The Kiwis hampered Pakistan in the first four games in the five-match series. Pakistan won the final T20I encounter to witness a 4-1 defeat in the T20I series.

Pakistan lost the 1st T20I game by 46 runs and the 2nd match by 21 runs. Later, they lost the 3rd T20I by 45 runs and the 4th T20I by 7 wickets. In the 5th T20I, Pakistan earned a victory by 42 runs.
