The Indian team is all set to host South Africa for a 5-match T20I series soon after the conclusion of the IPL 2022 season in May. The barrage of T20s has been scheduled to help prepare for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Rohit Sharma-led India will play five matches across various venues in June. This is right before the Men in Blue travel to England once again for the pending 5th Test of the previous Test series and six limited-overs matches.

As per Cricbuzz, the venues were decided during the Apex Council of the BCCI that had a meeting on March 2, Wednesday. The dates were also decided and the South Africa series will be played between June 9 and 19 across 5 venues – Cuttack, Vizag, Delhi, Rajkot, and Chennai.

Receding pandemic allowing BCCI to conduct India-South Africa series across the country

In normal circumstances, the matches would have been held in two places, like the recent West Indies series which was played in Ahmedabad and Kolkata only. However, the decrease in the number of cases has allowed the BCCI to plan cross-country travel.

The IPL league stage, however, is set to be played only in Mumbai and Pune. The playoff venues haven’t been decided but it is expected to be in Ahmedabad. Additionally, two matches against South Africa were supposed to be in Bengaluru and Nagpur.

However, BCCI opted to assign the matches to Cuttack and Vizag, which missed out on hosting matches in the Windies series due to pandemic reasons. Another factor considered by the council for deciding the venues was the weather.

It is expected to be warm in Delhi, Rajkot, and Chennai while there might be slight rain in Cuttack (1st game) and Vizag (2nd game).
