India National Cricket Team head coach Ajit Agarkar revealed why Rinku Singh missed out on the team for the T20 World Cup 2024. He stated that leaving out the young batter was the toughest thing that they have done so far and it was an unfortunate thing to do.

When the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 was announced, one of the names that didn't feature there was Rinku Singh. The young batter not being there raised quite a few eyebrows because not many expected that batter would miss out on the team.

Rinku Singh arguably is one of the best batters in T20I cricket for the Indian team in the last one year. The batter didn't put a foot wrong in his short career for the national side and even in the Indian Premier League, he has been one of the best finishers in the last couple of years for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.

Rinku Singh has been averaging 90 in the T20Is, which speaks a lot about what he has done for the team. The batter also played quite a few magnificent innings for the team while batting down the order and also bailed them out of trouble when they were tottering and lost early wickets.

Ajit Agarkar talked about the snub of Rinku Singh, saying that the batter along with Shubman Gill, who was also picked, had not done anything wrong for the team. He also opened up about the combination of the team. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"Probably the toughest thing we have had to do. He has done nothing wrong, nor has Shubman Gill. It's again the combinations. Like Rohit said, we are not sure about what conditions we will get. We have tried to have enough options. There are a couple of wrist spinners, Chahal and Kuldeep to give, Rohit more options."

I don't think it has anything to do with Rinku Singh - Ajit Agarkar on the batter's selection

Ajit Agarkar further talked about the same, saying that Rinku Singh not getting picked in the team wasn't his fault but they need to pick two keepers in the team. He while talking about Rinku being a traveling reserve claimed that it was tough on him. He added:

"It's just unfortunate. I don't think it has anything to do with Rinku Singh. It's not his fault that he has missed out. It's more the 15 that we felt gives with two keepers who are already terrific batters.

"So we just thought having another bowling option would be handy. He is still one of the travelling subs. That's how close he was. It's a little bit tough on him. At the end of the day, you only pick 15."

Rinku Singh along with Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed is part of the reserves. With the deadline for squad change still around for a while, it remains to be seen if any of them would get a chance in the team.
