Arjun Tendulkar continues to move in the right direction as he looks to make it big in cricket. The 19-year old, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, has been making the news for the all right reasons in recent months due to his on-field exploits. A few months ago, he had earned his maiden call-up from India Under-19 team for the tour of Sri Lanka.  He was a part of the team for the Youth Tests in Sri Lanka. Arjun had gone on to make his mark by claiming his first wicket in his very first over.

Later in November last year, he had impressed in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The left-arm pacer had bagged the figures of 5/30 to help Mumbai thrash Gujarat by 9 wickets. He had also taken 3 for just 14 runs off seven overs in Mumbai’s 10-wicket win over Assam. In that same month, he had taken six wickets for 70 runs while playing for Vijay Merchant XI against Vijay Manjrekar XI in the KC Mahindra Shield U-19 tournament.

Arjun, in fact, has been doing well for the last two years or so. In the 2017-18 Cooch Behar Trophy, he had picked up 19 wickets in five matches, including two five-wicket hauls for Mumbai Under-19.

In July 2017, he was part of an MCC squad that played two matches against Namibia Under-19 in England. He starred for his side in the first game, picking up for wickets as MCC bowled out Namibia for just 49.

On the back of his consistent impressive performances, Arjun has now made it to Mumbai Under-23 team for a domestic one-day competition. Mumbai will start their campaign against Punjab on February 15. The latest call-up came after Arjun’s impressive display in the RFS Talyarkhan Memorial invitation tournament where he picked up four wickets. He also impressed in the DY Patil T20 Cup, scoring 35 runs and picking up 4 wickets while representing DY Patil ‘B’.

Mumbai Under-23 coach Amit Pagnis heaped praise on Arjun, lauding him for his recent performances and his bowling.

“He conceded only five runs from two overs [18th and 20th overs] and also got the priced wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal [of MCA Colts]. He also bowled well in the two trial matches, claiming two wickets in each game. Yorkers, bouncers and slower ones are his main strengths,” Pagnis told mid-day.
