Australia Set to Host Two T20 World Cups in 2020

Australia is officially next to host the newly renamed ICC T20 World Cup in 2020 following the conclusion of the Women’s World T20 tournament in the Windies. Meanwhile, the country would host two T20 World Cups in 2020 including that of men and women.

Australia to create history

Moreover, the next mega event in the shortest format will be starting in just under 15 months. Meanwhile, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will comprise of ten teams playing 23 matches from 21st February – 8th March 2020. After that, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, involving 16 countries representing 45 games will begin from 18th October – 15th November 2020.

Furthermore, for the first time in T20 cricket, both men and Women’s teams will play in the same country and the same year. However, eight cities and 13 venues throughout Australia will host the matches. In addition to, the men’s and women’s final will take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The women’s final is also scheduled on International Women’s Day on March 8, 2020 (Sunday).

Nick Hockley, CEO of the ICC T20 World Cup Australia 2020 Local Organising Committee, said: “Australia has an unparalleled reputation for hosting major international sporting events as well as passionate, knowledgeable and diverse fans who love T20 cricket.

“Only twice previously has Australia hosted international cricket’s showpiece events, with the Men’s 50-over Cricket World Cup held in Australia in 1992 and 2015. So, 2020 represents a rare and special opportunity to welcome the cricketing world for not just one, but two World Cups.

“We look forward to working with host cities, venues, the community, and all our partners over the coming months, so that both the women’s and men’s T20 World Cups in 2020 make up a spectacular celebration that everyone can be part of.”

However, Aussie Women had recently won the ICC Women’s World T20 title after beating England by eight wickets in the final game. However, Windies is leading the table, as they had won the ICC World T20 title two times. On the other hand, the Australian Women’s is leading the board as they won the title four times.
