Recently, after MS Dhoni short-run has made the news, it was the reaction of Adam Gilchrist on the air, which made the headlines. Meanwhile, an umpire wants to make it clear to Adam Gilchrist, who expressed his surprise. However, Adam Gilchrist, in the most gentleman way, reverted back to the concerned individual.

Dhoni came in to bat after Ambati Rayudu’s departure with India moving towards the target at 160/3. Dhoni combined with Virat Kohli to put on an 82-run stand for the fourth wicket and then with Dinesh Karthik for another 57 runs as India won the game with four balls to spare.

It was a unique situation – Adam Gilchrist

While umpiring mistakes are part and parcel of the game, seeing if a batsman is completing the run properly or not, has to be one of the most important things for the umpires to take notice. However, nowadays, the umpires seem more interested to be reliant on technology for everything and MS Dhoni took the benefit of the same.

Coming back to the topic, the concerned individual named Darshak Patel quoted ”Adam Gilchrist, regarding the @msdhoni #shortrun that you claim happened in the 45th over. Short Run can only be considered on the 2nd or any subsequent Runs. Once the Batsman has crossed on first Run and the Fielding side decides to not do anything, then that Run will Stand.”

”Thanks for advising. Clearly @msdhoni wasn’t doing anything against the rules. It was just a unique situation not often seen,” he replied.

India chased down the target of 299 runs with four balls to spare. Apart from Kohli and Dhoni’s crucial knocks, Karthik also contributed well with his quickfire 14-ball 25 to ensure the required rate didn’t mount up.

The win ensured India level the series 1-1. Now, both the sides will fight tooth and nail to bag the coveted trophy on Friday at Iconic Melbourne Cricket Grounds.
