Australia vs India 2018-19: Watch: Hanuma Vihari Goes for Expensive Sweep, Gets Dismissed
Updated - 04 Jan 2019, 07:27 AM
India’s overnight batsman Hanuma Vihari was dismissed by Nathan Lyon in the first hour of the second day morning when he tried to go for the sweep. Vihari got a faint edge which hit his biceps and lofted to Marnus Labuschagne, at short leg. The standing umpire Ian Gould gave the decision in favour of the hosts.
However, Hanuma Vihari was confident that he didn’t hit the ball and was quick to go the review. Vihari also signalled to his partner, Cheteshwar Pujara that he didn’t get an edge. In fact, Nathan Lyon was also not sure of the dismissal.
Vihari was looking good.
Howsoever, the Snickometer showed a different story altogether and there was a little spike on the meter when the ball went past the bat. Consequently, Vihari had to walk after scoring 42. Thus, Ian Gould stayed with his on-field decision and India lost their review.
In fact, we have seen in the past when a particular batsman doesn’t feel the edge and it was a similar case when Vihari didn’t feel it.
Meanwhile, Hanuma Vihari was looking good and had done the hard work in the first hour of the play. However, the Andhra batsman could not carry on and added only three runs to his overnight score of 39 runs. In fact, it was a good opportunity for Vihari to get a big score under his bag. However, it wasn’t to be the case as Vihari decided to go for the sweep shot.
On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara is once again going strong. The Talisman batsman has brought up his 150 and India is in a commanding position. Pujara will like to get a double ton as he is currently batting on 160 with Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant accompanying him on 16 runs.
Here is the wicket of Hanuma Vihari:
