The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) were the hosts of the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on Tuesday, May 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Delhi Capitals were invited to bat first in the match and the young duo of Abishek Porel (65) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) provided the team with an excellent start. There was a phase where DC lost back-to-back wickets, but Tristan Stubbs (41) finished the innings on a high and took the team to 221/8. For RR, Ravichandran Ashwin picked three wickets while Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged one wicket each.

Defending the total, Delhi Capitals bowlers removed Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over and Jos Buttler in the 6th over. Riyan Parag and Shubham Dubey played quite well and supported their skipper Sanju Samson. The RR captain took the game deep but wasn't able to finish the match and was dismissed for 86. DC managed to restrict RR to 201/8 and won the match by 20 runs.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Rishabh Pant said that his bowlers did a great job and were the biggest positive in the match. Rishabh Pant stated:

"The way our bowlers executed at the back end was the main positive and it was really good to see."

Rishabh Pant added that they will learn from each and every game whether they win or lose. He said:

'We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our head down and keep moving forward."

Rishabh Pant further lavished rich praise on Kuldeep Yadav, who picked two wickets and said:

"As always Kuldeep delivered which was great to see. It was close to par and at the same time we were thinking that if we can restrict them to 200 that would be fair and that was the thought process."

What Happened In the Previous Meeting Between Rajasthan Royals And Delhi Capitals

In the Indian Premier League 2024, the first match between the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals was held on March 28 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. That was the ninth match of the ongoing season and after posting 185 for 5, Rajasthan Royals restricted Delhi Capitals to 173 for 5 and won by 12 runs.

After the failure of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, the No.4 batter Riyan Parag showed his quality and played a tremendous knock in the match. He smashed 84 runs off 45 balls, including 7 fours and 6 sixes, and was well-supported by teammates Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Shimron Hetmyer.

Delhi Capitals used 5 bowling options in the innings and all five of them - Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed - picked up one wicket each.

During the run-chase, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh batted well but the batting unit's failure to fire collectively resulted in DC falling short of the target. Rishabh Pant looked quite scratchy and played a slow knock while Tristan Stubbs fought well, but his innings wasn't able to power DC to a win.
