Former West Indies legend, Brian Lara believes Prithvi Shaw is mentally strong to adapt. Shaw has had a fine start to his career. The prodigy batsman scored a great hundred on his Test debut. The young batsman has a lot of talent under his belt and it was all on display in the two-match Test series against the Windies.

Shaw scored 237 runs in his maiden Test series and was awarded the Man of the series. Thus, it was a fine start to the promising career of Shaw. The rookie batsman is also included for the Test squad of Australia tour. Therefore, Shaw will have his work cut against the Australian attack. Meanwhile, Brian Lara believes a player should look to perform against the best in the business.

Shaw has shown the right promise.

“You should be ready to perform against the best in the world. You don’t want to be hiding against them and when the minnows come around you want to score double centuries and take five-wicket hauls. In fact, you have to embrace Australia. I wanted to embrace Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath because I wanted to be in competition with them. That brought out the best in me,” Brian Lara said as quoted by Times of India.

The former southpaw batsman believes a young player should not contemplate fear. Lara said Shaw is mentally strong to adapt his game according to the conditions.

“Any young cricketer must dismiss fear. For example, everybody is talking about Prithvi Shaw and how he is going to do on bouncy pitches. He has an inner mental strength, which is very important. Your technique is going to adapt to any condition if your mental strength is strong. I saw him bat against a couple of West Indies bowlers, who were bowling around the 140s, and he is good. I believe that if he doesn’t have a great tour then it doesn’t mean he won’t have a great career. He is mentally strong. This is how I went about my career. I had a mental strength that was different from others and I wanted to succeed under any condition.”

Prithvi Shaw has shown the right promise to deliver the goods at the big stage. Shaw has all the skills in the bag and would look to grab his chance on the tour of Australia. It is not going to be a cakewalk for Shaw as he will face bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.
