Zimbabwe was able to stun Bangladesh in the first Test match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The visitors were able to win by a mammoth margin of 151 runs. Thus, it is a historic win for Zimbabwe as they savored their first Test win in five years. Furthermore, this is only their third Test win while playing away from home. Therefore, this win must have done a world of good to Zimbabwe.

Hamilton Masakadza had won the toss and decided to bat first. Zimbabwe was able to post a fighting total of 282 runs in their first innings. Masakadza led with the bat as the captain scored a fine fifty in the first dig.

Zimbabwe premier batsman Sean Williams scored a fine knock of 88 runs whereas Peter Moor scored a patient knock of unbeaten 63 off just 192 balls. Taijul Islam was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers in the first essay as he scalped six wickets.

However, Bangladesh could not come up with a good batting performance as they managed only 143 in their first innings. No Bangladesh batsman could even cross the 50-run mark as 41 was the best score.

Tendai Chatara and Sikander Raza scalped three wickets each to push Bangladesh on the backfoot. Kyle Jarvis also took two wickets to skittle out the hosts cheaply.

Zimbabwe made 181 in their second to further add to their lead. Hamilton Masakadza again scored a good knock of 48 runs. Taijul Islam continued his first innings form as he took another five-wicket haul in the second innings.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh succumbed to pressure as they could only make 169 runs in their second innings. Zimbabwe leg-spinner Brandon Mavuta scalped four wickets in the second dig.

Therefore, Zimbabwe was able to tick the right boxes. They were the underdogs but they were able to surprise the hosts by their brilliant display. Sean Williams was awarded the Man of the match for his knock of 88 and 20 runs.
