BCCI has paid an amount of Rs 54 Lakh to former India selector, Gagan Khoda. The former selector was removed from selection panel last year, following the Lodha recommendations.

As per the rules, the selection panel could have had a maximum of three members, with all of them having an experience of playing Test cricket. Khoda, along with Jatin Paranjape, did not play Test cricket, which automatically ruled them out of the panel, to cut short the panel to three members.

Questions were raised when the board decided that they would pay salaries to both Khoda and Paranjape without taking their services. In fact, Paranjape had already been paid an amount of Rs 43.20 Lakh last month.

Now, Khoda has also received his salary from BCCI.

Currently, MSK Prasad, Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi are three members in the selection panel. Prasad – Chairman of selection panel – played six Tests and 17 ODIs while Sarandeep played three Tests and five ODIs. Devang four Tests and three ODIs.

The Indian selectors were appointed by a process where the BCCI invited applications for the post, before appointing the new panel.

The selection panel has been rated as a light-weight sometimes but they have done their job well. Team India qualified for the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy while has also done well from the day they have taken the charge.

BCCI also rewarded the selection panel last year for team India’s show in the ICC Champions Trophy.

The tenure of the current selection panel was to end last year but they were given an extension. It is still not confirmed until when current selection panel will continue their job.

Meanwhile, Vinod Rai, COA Chief, said that the board will look expand the selection panel. Though it will be a breach of the Lodha recommendations, which has proposed a maximum of three members in the selection panel.
