The Bushfire Cricket Bash at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Sunday witnessed a handful of cricketing legends exhibit their skills to raise money for a noble cause. But Sachin Tendulkar’s taking the field after nearly six years to face four balls from Ellyse Perry was significant that grabbed a million fans’ attention. And contrary to anybody’s expectation, the former batting maestro remarked that he was more nervous than Perry before coming out to bat.

The historic moment took place during the innings break as Sachin fulfilled his promise of facing Perry in an over. Even though Sachin claimed he felt apprehensive, he comfortably glanced Perry for a boundary off the first ball into the square leg region. He looked level-headed for the next three balls before Annabel Sutherland came to bowl the final two deliveries.

The 46-year old said that he talked to Perry and told her that he had a brief net session and can see the ball, yet he wasn’t sure whether it will make contact with the bat or not.

He further said that all he told the Australian bowler that he could spend some time in the middle.

“I think I was more nervous than (Perry) because I was not sure whether I was going to see the ball or not. I told her that after last evening’s net, I did one throwdown session and I said, ‘I can see the ball but I cannot guarantee whether the ball is going to hit the bat’, at least I could see the ball and spend some time in the middle.” Sachin said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

The leading run-getter in Test and ODI cricket also said that he strode out in the middle against the doctor’s advice only because some money would be accumulated if they went out to play.

Sachin further conceded that one has to hit the nets for a long time only then they would be able to play well on the pitch.

“It doesn’t come so easily. One has to spend hours on end (in the nets). Today in fact I’ve gone against the doctor’s advice because we thought if I could get out there and play an over, we’d be able to generate some money and that was the understanding so I’m here for that causea dn think we’ve been able to generate a decent amount.” he added further.

As far as the game is concerned, Ponting XI beat Gilchrist XI in a highly entertaining and a dramatic encounter.
