The Ethics officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, DK Jain, has dismissed the conflict of interest charges against Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster had issued a statement that he won’t be part of any committee of the Indian board through his legal counsel.

Consequently, Sachin Tendulkar will not be part of the Cricket Advisory Committee. CAC has the role of selecting India’s head coach. In fact, the former Indian opener has suggested that he won’t be the part of any committee of the BCCI. Tendulkar stated he won’t be part of the committee unless he is met with the terms of reference and tenure of his appointment.

Subsequently, DK Jain who is also the BCCI ombudsman has dismissed the allegations as infructuous.

Jain wrote in his verdict, “Once the BCCI furnished the terms of reference and tenure, he will decide on the course of his participation in the same. Mr. Tendulkar doesn’t consider himself to be part of any Cricket Advisory Committee and will not act as such. In consequence, the present complaint doesn’t survive for adjudication. Resultantly, the present complaint is rendered infructuous and is disposed of, as such.”

Meanwhile, the conflict of interest issue was surfaced when MPCA member Sanjeev Gupta questioned the dual roles of Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. Both of these former players are the members of CAC. The duo also had their roles as mentors of Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

Sachin had clarified his role with MI.

However, both Sachin and Laxman had responded that BCCI never clarified their roles as CAC member even after seeking clarification.

“Without prejudice to his rights and contentions in the present proceeding, Mr. Sachin Tendulkar wishes to reiterate that he has been requesting BCCI since the inception of the CAC that terms of reference and his tenure is furnished to him,” read a statement from Tendulkar’s legal counsel.

“He has requested this repeatedly and several times over the years including as recently as on 7.12.2018. He is now left with no other choice but communicates to BCCI. Until and unless the BCCI furnishes the terms of reference and tenure of his appointment in the CAC, he has decided not be part of any committee of the BCCI including the CAC.”

Furthermore, Sachin Tendulkar also responded to the charges and stated that he doesn’t receive any compensation from Mumbai Indians. In fact, Tendulkar clarified that he doesn’t have any decision making role with the franchise.

Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly were part of the CAC. The trio selected Ravi Shastri as the head coach in July 2017.
