Chasing 175 runs set by India with fifties from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, Bangladesh got off to a flying start. But Deepak Chahar helped them bounce back. Chahar registered the best ever T20I figures – six for seven while Dube returned with three scalps. Moreover, the fast bowler from Rajasthan also became the first Indian to register a T20I hat-trick.

Deepak Chahar was at his spectacular best in the death overs which give India the luxury alongside Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. While everyone is talking about him picking the hat-trick and winning India the game in conditions not suited for bowlers, it is the faith that skipper Rohit showed in him that makes Chahar happy.

“He told me I will use you as a Bumrah today. I will bowl you in the crucial overs and that was motivating for me. I love it when I am given responsibility under pressure because that makes me feel that I am being trusted. I feel bad when nobody trusts me. To get that confidence from the captain felt good at that stage of the game,” Chahar said to IANS.

Deepak Chahar’s exploit in the final overs has made netizens and experts compare him with Jasprit Bumrah. But the 28-year-old wants to stay grounded and continue to work hard. Chahar also stated there is no doubting the fact that Bumrah is the No.1 bowler at present in the format and the comparison makes him happy.

Meanwhile, the management will have tough choices to make when the senior fast bowlers return to the playing XI in the shortest format. Deepak Chahar has been impressive of the lot and it will be difficult to leave him outside.

“Imandar hona chahiye (You should be honest) …I know where he stands and I also know where I stand. He is the No.1 bowler in the format and as a T20 bowler, he has everything, be it pace or control. He is the No.1 bowler for me and saying that is not a shame. I am not competing with him and my job is to do well. You need to focus on the game and the team should win and that has to be the priority,” Chahar concluded.
