The visiting team India is high on confidence after winning the Twenty20 International series against England by a 2-1 margin.

Virat Kohli-led side was thoroughly professional in all three departments of the game. After suffering a hiccup in the second encounter, the Men in Blue bounced back strongly to win the decider convincingly by seven wickets.

Top-order batsman Rohit Sharma looked in superb touch and became just the second batsman in the world to smash three T20I centuries after Kiwis batsman Colin Munro.

However, all-rounder, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the Indian bowlers bagging four wickets.

England has played some terrific brand of cricket in the 50-over format. But, they have not managed to replicate their form in the shortest format.

Eventually, India was quite aware of the fact that the hosts will pose a totally different challenge in the three-match One-day International series. The first match is underway at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Keeping the trend intact, Team India skipper Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl. Pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to be on the sidelines as he is yet to recover from the niggle which he sustained during the second T20I.

Paceman Siddarth Kaul made his ODI debut owing to Bhuvneshwar’s replacement. The opening over was handed over to speedster Umesh Yadav and the Men in Blue got an opportunity to dismiss Jonny Bairstow in the very first over.

The missed chance:

In the last delivery of the opening over, Umesh bowled a brilliant inswinging delivery which breached Bairstow’s defense and thudded straight on to the pads.

The ball was moving quite a bit and the umpire thought the ball would be missing the leg-stump. Kohli and the Indian team pondered about taking the review.

However, in the end, he decided against it and was shocked to see the replays suggested that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps.

Only 15 seconds is allotted for taking a review and the Indian team had lost that much before. Replays clearly showed that the ball would have hit the top of the leg-stump.

Hence, had the review been taken, India would have bagged their maiden breakthrough in the very first over. The English openers started off well with a 70-runs partnership. However, Kuldeep Yadav turned the match on its head when he bagged three crucial wickets in the middle overs.

When the article was written, England were 189 for four in 36.3 overs. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes were in the middle. The home team will definitely look to score over 320.

Even if that’s the case, India might back themselves to chase the total down.
