India will welcome reigning 50-over World Champions England next year for a limited-overs series. The Men in Blue will play three T20Is and as many ODIs against England before the visitors return again in early 2021 for a Test series. England had last visited India in 2016-17 season for a full-fledged series and the hosts had thoroughly dominated the proceedings.

India had won the five-match Test series 4-0 before winning the ODIs and T20Is 2-1. Last year, England had hosted the Virat Kohli-led side and had won the ODIs as well as Tests while the visitors had won the T20Is. All eyes are now on the upcoming series next year as it promises to be a cracking one. India have looked almost unbeatable at home while England have done really well in limited-overs format in recent times.

New coach for England?

England, meanwhile, can appoint their former captain Paul Collingwood as the interim head coach for the tour of India as new head coach Chris Silverwood’s attempts to spread the load of an increasingly congested fixture list, according to Daily Mail. The report suggested that Collingwood is on the brink of signing a contract to become Silverwood’s full-time assistant.

Collingwood is also in line to take the reins for the three-match one-day series at home to Ireland next September. England will leave for India straight after the series against Ireland and thus Silverwood is keen to take a breather ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia in mid-October. England are also considering appointing a full-time spin-bowling coach.

Former New Zealand spinner Jeetan Patel is currently leading the race after impressing as a consultant during England’s 3-2 T20 series win against the Black Caps. England are reportedly set to take Patel to Sri Lanka in March. England are currently playing the two-match Test series in New Zealand.
